Your options from out of state

  • Online: through the state’s own system or the vendor it names. Fastest to place; adds a processing fee and optional shipping.
  • By mail: the state’s form, a copy of your ID (some states want it notarized) and a check or money order payable exactly as the state prints it.
  • By phone or fax: some states take orders through their vendor by phone.

Ordering a birth certificate by mail, by state

Mail works from anywhere. The table gives each state's mail fee, the payee to write on the check or money order and the published mail time. Online ordering and vendor fees are compared in VitalChek and other ordering services.
